We exist as an organization to advance and improve the quality of justice and public safety in the greater Memphis-Shelby County metropolitan area and reduce fear and crime at the same time. We work to create a safe community where citizens can live, work and raise families without the fear of crime.

In particular, the MSCC was created and exists today to insure that the current Memphis and Shelby County renaissance will not be reversed either by the perception or reality of crime. Since its inception, the Memphis Shelby Crime Commission has evolved into a statesmanlike voice of reform, a proponent of positive change, a resource which the community can call upon, and an organization that can provide local perspective for national criminal justice issues or national context for local criminal justice concerns.

Additionally, the MSCC uses the "best practices" method of research quality assurance. A Best Practices Committee was created to address all aspects and phases of crime and public safety including crime prevention, courts, law enforcement, juvenile justice, gangs, technology, victim assistance, domestic violence, drugs, corrections and legislation. That committee made recommendations based on the Crime Commission's key organizational goals and objectives that led to our first three years of foundational research.

Together, we can make an impact on crime.

It takes cooperation, a sense of commitment and the realization that within the community lies the greatest power and obligation to make this a safer place to live, work, and play.
