Violent Crime

Aggravated Assault--An unlawful attack by one person upon another wherein the offender uses a weapon or displays it in a threatening manner, or the victim suffers obvious severe or aggravated bodily injury involving apparent broken bones, loss of teeth, possible internal injury, severe laceration, or loss of consciousness. Domestic violence and child abuse are not included below.

Robbery--The taking, or attempting to take, anything of value under confrontational circumstances from the control, custody, or care of another person by force or threat of force or violence and/or by putting the victim in fear of immediate harm.

Business-A business is the target.

Individual-A person (s) is the target.

Carjacking—A person is robbed of their car.

Due to other factors, such as behavioral risk, relationship to the offender and small amount of data, Murder and Forcible Rape are not included.

Property Crime

It is harder to determine an actual time of occurrence for Property Crime because of the length of time over which an incident may occur or be reported. For example, a victim leaves for work and when he returns home nine hours later, he discovers the house was broken into. Or an individual goes to sleep at 10:00 pm, only to discover the next morning that his car was broken into.

The data included is for the first occurrence time and day only, but it is safe to assume in many cases a morning start time will last through the work or school day, and a night start time will last until the morning.

Burglary--The unlawful entry into a building or other structure with the intent to commit a felony or a theft.

Business—A business is the target.

Residence—Structures such as houses and apartments are the target.

Car Break-In--The theft of articles or parts (inside or outside) from a motor vehicle, whether locked or unlocked.

Motor Vehicle Theft--The theft of a motor vehicle, including cars, motorcycles and trucks.
