Governor Bill Lee has appointed Bill Gibbons, Crime Commission president, to his Criminal Justice Investment Task Force. Gibbons will serve as part of a five-member task force steering committee.
“We are committed to addressing all aspects of the criminal justice system to improve public safety and re-entry in our state,” said Lee in announcing the task force.
The task force also includes seven appointees who will oversee key focus areas for study. The group includes two other Shelby Countians – Criminal Court Judge John Campbell, who will focus on the state’s criminal code and sentencing structure, and TN Department of Children’s Services Commissioner Jennifer Nichols, who will focus on “drivers of crime.” Campbell serves on the Crime Commission board of directors as well.
Over the next two state legislative sessions, the task force will develop legislative and budgetary recommendations regarding public safety and re-entry issues.
