Memphis, TN – April 2, 2024 – After a rough 2023, our community had some good news in 2024, with reported crimes going down in most major categories. Reported victims of major violent crime (composed of murders, rapes, robberies, and aggravated assaults), major property crime (composed of reported burglaries, vehicle thefts, and other felony thefts), and overall reported crime (made up of 54 categories) all declined in 2024 compared to 2023. Especially encouraging were the double digit declines in murders (down 28.6 percent), robberies (down 22.3 percent) and vehicle thefts (a drop of 35.6 percent).
